El Cazador eps 3 - 4

Combo entry, more on episode 4.

Episode 3:
I skipped blogging it because all I saw was subtext for a triangle. Seriously, Ellis handcuffed, then naked, then Nadie sucking on her finger and her asking if it tastes good? Over the top. lol. Why Nadie even bothered to sleep in a chair is beyond me…

Member no 3 of the triangle, The Mysterious Bishonen, made contact - he prevented the Borderline Drag Duo from reaching the love shack house where Ellis and Nadie were, sprayed Nadie with sth that made her unconscious, and went on to tell Ellis he is always watching her and he will become someone very important to her. Ellis was all “Nope, you won’t.” but then she seemed a bit impressed. Though “impressed” and Ellis are kinda hard to say in the same sentence. As the episode ended we are told the guy’s name is L.A. (lol) and his identity is unknown. The Evil Guy also monologued about how he was the one to gave L.A. a soul so I guess he was the Evil Guy’s pet project, as Ellis was the Scientist’s. We’ll see.

There is some interesting chat between the “walking around (half) naked” thing going on in the house. Nadie acts all nice to Ellis, telling her she is not really strange, and there are always people looking oddly at someone so she shouldn’t care; she also calls Ellis “human” which causes some reaction. Unfortunately Nadie acts TOO nice, so in the end we find out nothing about Ellis, though she did seem willing to talk about herself.

Episode 4:

Finally the Almost Drag-y Duo caught up with them. There is a shooting in a convent. Ellis seems to be falling asleep during the whole thing and she hits her head against the wall. Nadie worries about Ellis’s “ouch” till she realizes what went on. Seriously, how much is Nadie getting paid for this? lol. Of course Ellis is awake enough to tell the Nun Trio that God is not helping anyone. I’d ask for extra money from my employer, or extra favors from Ellis. (Preferably the second though.)

Then, all of a sudden, “Ellis is an artificial life form.” It feels like I skipped an episode.

There is a scene with Hayward and Evil Guy Rosenberg. She outwits him, it’s funny, but we find out nothing else. Of course. Episode 4 is way too early in a Bee Train anime.

Repeat the scene with Ellis sleeping and bumping her head. This time she allerts the Gay Pride Duo, fortunately a mouse fools them so all is ok.

Hayward recaps the situation: the Scientist (Heinz Schneider) was supposed to keep Ellis under observation, but he croaks, so there’s a bounty on Ellis’s head. Since she has no memories of the incident, it is unknown (well, on the Good Side) who actually killed him. Not exactly new info either.

This episode seems to be all about how unfortunate Nadie is to have landed this assignement and get stuck between a duo of Trigger Happy Lipstick Bounty Hunters, a trio of God Loving Nuns who want to drive the bounty hunters away with a bunch of “around the house” ustensils and Ellis who sleeps and awakes at the wrong times (and wants to fight the bounty hunters with 2 forks.) Nadie’s patience is godly. (Also, kudos for the Noir reference.)

Wild Wild West GaysEllis sleepingBeware Armed Ellis

This seems the right time to say that this series is funny. Not funny like a comedy, but still intentionally funny. And it works. Not just Ellis’s oddness, but also details like how Nadie runs vs the hilariously… well, gay pursuers.

Ellis’s Pretty Rock drops while she runs, so she goes back to pick it up. The duo gets there in time to point guns at her, which leaves Nadie no choice. One of the guys grabs Ellis, the other is all big with threats for Nadie. I bet Ellis will blow up in fireworks any moment now.

Indeed, but she is very subdued, only melting the high-heeled shoe of the Nadie Threatener. Nadie hits him while he is distracted, and the nuns lay the beating on the other one, saying “Lord, Lord, Lord” and “forgive us, forgive us, forgive us” while they do it. Funny, see?

The Gay Male Duo still follows the PossiblyFutureGay Female Duo, but Nadie shoots a tire while they drive at each other. Yes, Ellis drives. Proficiently.

Because it was told in small bits during the entire episode, I’ve decided to just summarize the other stuff we know after this episode at the end of the post:

* Ellis’s ability is like that of witches and it’s about manipulating molecules (though it’s not explained how exactly and whether this is connected only to fire/heat). The witches died out, but genetic engineering created a being with similar abilities. This is Project Leviathan.

* Rosenberg is evil, well connected and has some unclear personal ambitions (don’t they all?). Hayward is probably good, she wants to bust up Project Leviathan for some reason, and can afford to (secretly?) pay Nadie to protect Ellis. While Rosenberg pays an assassin to off researchers, has the Stalker Bishonen to keep an eye on Ellis and probably Tall Guy With Loli too, though Tall Guy said he is not certain Ellis is his target (then again, he could have lied).

Oh, and
* Ellis can drive.
