Nanoha StrikerS 3 - “Gathering of Useless Characters”
“It took quite awhile for my dream to be realized” is a funny line to use when you show the now adult Nanoha/Fate/Hayate “half naked in bed” threesome. Too bad the rest of script doesn’t keep up.
The episode itself begins with a fascinating discussion about the new uniform and when Nanoha will be wearing it and when not. It’s cute how Rein has her own chibi desk though. ^^
A new character comes in after that. And another guy to boot. It’s Griffith-kun, Admiral Leti’s son. Check out the screenshots with the lotsa new people on board. >.> It gets “better”.
Signum now has Fate as immediate superior so she asks what she should call Fate, mistress?, “ma’am”? Of course Fate is all “N-no, call me just like before.” No fun, Fate-chan…
Meanwhile Nanoha got saddled with training the n00bs. A helicopter is somehow involved. Again. And WHO THE FUCK IS SHARI? You know, the chick that Nanoha is all excited to see, mechanical designer etc etc. Am I supposed to remember some Shari(o)? No, wait, am I supposed to instantly care because Nanoha is all friendly and calling her nicknames?
The next part of the episode is freakin’ boring: First Hayate and Fate give a speech about what Lost Loggia is, but fans already know. Then the n00bs do action-stuff that nevertheless looks less interesting than Nanoha’s training at the beginning of season 2.
Some notes:
The boy’s device is more traditional than the rest.
The loli has unusual abilities, “summoning magic”, Nanoha calls it “the ability to combine inorganic substances”. But she uses it to bind something to stop it from moving, which some, like say… Yuuno and ARF (WHERE IS ARF?!) did with her magic without being all speshul because of it. >.>
This series has 2 things going for it:
Rein.
Fate and Nanoha really seem to be sleeping together.
On the other hand check out the friggin’ eyecatch with Nanoha, Fate, Hayate and Rein in the background while the n00bs take the limelight!
I will be watching more of this, but I no longer expect to like it.

You seem to forget that this is now a 26 episode series, compared to the others that were 13. Therefore, it’ll take a bit to gain momentum. And don’t forget about character development (what you call “Useless characters”).
