Nanoha StrikerS ep 2

Another dissapointing episode.

My worst predictions are fulfilled when the intro of ep 2 belongs to Subaru.
Stop waxing lyrical on Nanoha. See that blondie who stares at you and asks wtf you are? That’s Fate, the character that you are NOT replacing. Even though you are more straight-forward than Fate was for the whole first season, sans last ep, lay off! >.< Besides, Fate saved your sister, so show some admiration. (I am such a Fate fan...)

Fate gets kinda "what the heck is going on?" and goes at the window to look at Nanoha. Nanoha sees her and they smile at each other. So cute! And then Subaru sees Fate and is all "oh-oh, let's give her the military salute".

worried Fate: wtf is that n00b?Nanoha: no, you're still the one 4 me

And then… then… YES! This is Fate’s episode!

We get to see the actual events that were shown in the beginning of ep 1 as Subaru’s memory.

2 questions:
1. What’s up with Fate’s aura? So DBZ.
2. “This is Testarossa Harlaown”? Wasn’t she Fate T. Harlaown (or whatever spelling is right)? That made more sense.
3. Hayate transforming as she runs and lifting off in a rush of black feathers was AMAZING. Amazing. Too bad I can’t get any relevant screenshots of that. The music is quite good too, changing mood very quickly from one scene to another.
4. Fate’s speed was always one of her strenghts, but now she has Sonic Move that’s like the apotheosis of her being faster than others.

Super Sayan FateFate after Sonic Flash

Then, out of the blue, the scene with them all in bed.
Screenshots…

Back to present day, Hayate invites the n00bs to her squad. Harem much, Mistress-chan? Nanoha also comes in and announces that the noobs have failed, but passed. In a predictable turn of events, they will be able to take the exam again because… well, because they failed impressively enough, I guess. >.>

More scenes featuring the duo wondering if they are going to join Hayate’s squad. Subaru, you will study under Nanoha (’s care). Is your yes even an issue here? Tiana gets major points for saying that truth out loud. Subaru claims that Tia sees a hot rival scene when it comes to Fate. You can say that again, well, except for the “rival” part.
Anyway, they, equally predictable, decide to accept Hayate’s offer.

Then the episode picks up again, with a Nanoha/Fate scene and then with Signum making an appearance to pick up yet another 2 n00bs. A guy (whoa?!) and a girl. Now comes the part where I say “I’m dropping this series”. The girl is a clumsy, helpless loli in funny (not “amusing”) clothes, the guy performes Fate’s Sonic Move and saves the loli from tripping all over herself. Of course they fall on top of each other, her on top, for once. She has a CUTESY BABY DRAGON as a pet. Words fail me…

Not even the Knights being brought back in action as part of Hayate’s unit is enough to make up for all this shit. WTF? No way, no how I’m watching this series. Why didn’t they make it a spin off? Nanoha and Fate had less screen time than all these new characters. And now the Amazingly Gifted Kid comes in or sth?

Last thought: Where the heck is Arf?!

I wouldn’t call it disappointing, personally, just different. But I suppose your mileage does vary, so I’m OK with that.

The thing is, this has the pacing of an average 26 episode series (and a sequel at that), which is not as tight and focused as that of the earlier 13 episode Nanoha batches.

Which, among other things, means that the new characters are indeed going to take up more screentime.

Some people might not tolerate that, but it’s fine by me, as they still have enough episodes to get back on track and give Nanoha & gang a more central role, given the different pace and format. Unless they screw up, but for now I can handle it.

The “Testarossa-Haralown” thing is just Fate identifying herself by her last name I guess. Like Agent so and so… and the T in Fate T Haralown is Testarossa

The problem with this is that when you get your request of actually getting Nanoha and co. to be the center of the story once again, Other people will call themselves the majority and tell that Nanoha’s stealing the show ala Kira Yamato… So no, just wait for the next episodes and watch how it works out in the first half…

XXX, that was a very good comment, thank you. Just after the episode, after I posted this, I was thinking about the pacing being normal and wondering if I have to school myself into being more patient. My problem is not with the pacing though, it’s with the “old crowd” being used as exactly that: people who are there as background teachers and models for a new generation. Besides, the brat using Flash Move and the loli with the baby dragon simply annoyed the heck out of me.

me, I know that. What I meant was that Fate using her adoptive family’s name and having her old one as just an initial made sense - she did, after all, leave behind that past identity, attachments, and willingness to let herself be (ab)used.

aeriolewinters, IMHO Nanoha can’t “steal the show” by being the main character. Heck, the show is still titled after her.
